How can I protect my teeth from damage?
Though tooth enamel is durable, it remains susceptible to chipping and cracking. In addition to following your hygienist's guidance, consider these protective measures. Avoid chewing ice, cracking nut shells, or using your teeth as tools to open packaging. Steer clear of hard foods such as popcorn kernels. Reduce consumption of acidic beverages like soda and sticky, sugary snacks. Refrain from getting tongue or lip piercings, as these can damage teeth and increase infection risk.Should I update my manual toothbrush to an electric?
When used properly, a manual toothbrush is equally effective as an electric model. The key factors are brushing for 2 to 3 minutes, employing short strokes at a 45-degree angle directed toward the gumline, and thoroughly cleaning all tooth surfaces, including inner, outer, and chewing surfaces.I'm pregnant. Is it safe for me to go to the dentist?
Congratulations! Yes, you should continue to see your dentist, as pregnancy can increase certain dental issues. Be sure to inform your dentist that you are pregnant and let them know if you're experiencing any changes in your oral health. When should my child receive his or her first dental check-up?
Ideally, you should take your child to a dentist when the first tooth appears and no later than their first birthday. Are dental X-rays safe?
Yes. New digital X-ray machines limit low-dose radiation to a beam that targets only the areas needing to be imaged. Digital sensors allow for shorter exposure times, and lead-lined aprons protect the body. Additionally, federal law requires X-ray machines to be checked every two years for safety and accuracy.I'm nervous about going to the dentist. How will you keep me comfortable?
